Chasing every Golden Seed location in Elden Ring? You're in the right spot. Golden Seeds are how you squeeze extra charges out of your Sacred Flask. Skip the early ones and the Lands Between will hand you your own rear end.
No map marker, no quest giver, just little golden trees scattered everywhere. Let's get you stocked up before Margit ruins your day.
What Do Golden Seeds Do in Elden Ring?
Simple version: Golden Seeds raise the total number of charges on your Sacred Flask.
Rest at a Site of Grace and you can split those charges between:
- Flask of Crimson for HP
- Flask of Cerulean for FP
Say you've got 8 charges total. Dump 6 into Crimson, leave 2 in Cerulean. A Golden Seed nudges that total up by one. Sounds small. Early game? It's the difference between winning and going home.
Don't mistake them for a temporary buff. Golden Seeds are permanent. They ride with you for the whole playthrough.
Golden Seed Locations Are Not Random
Biggest thing to get out of the way first: Golden Seeds are static spawns. They don't pop out of random enemies. And no, they don't respawn. Grab one and it's gone.
So when some video says "farming route," read that as collection route. Nobody grinds mobs for these.
Two patterns cover almost every seed in the game:
- A seed sits at the base of a small golden Erdtree sapling.
- A Golden Seed drops after you beat an Erdtree Avatar at a Minor Erdtree.
Spot a weird little golden tree that looks like a toy Erdtree? Get off Torrent and kick around the roots. Odds are that's a seed.
New player warning: don't just ride past those mini Erdtrees on autopilot. Dismount, scan the roots, grab it, and then run before something awful wanders over.
Golden Seed Locations by Region
The game won't mark every seed for you. Fastest way to vacuum them up is to sweep each region in order. I split my own runs into roughly these zones:
- Limgrave + Weeping Peninsula
- Liurnia of the Lakes
- Caelid and Dragonbarrow
- Altus Plateau and Mt. Gelmir
- Mountaintops of the Giants + Consecrated Snowfield
Riding south to north just follows the difficulty curve that already exists. You won't be forced into fighting level 80 monsters to grab an early Flask upgrade.
Limgrave Golden Seed Route
Start with the land right outside the tutorial. Even before Margit, a few seeds are sitting in Limgrave waiting.
Knock these out first:
- The Weeping Peninsula, especially around churches and cliff edges
- The woods near Mistwood
- The path around Stormhill
Whenever a Minor Erdtree shows up on your map, go look at it. Boss too tough right now? Fine. The seed nearby is still free.
My favorite early grab is near Stormhill. It sits close to the path into Stormveil Castle, and that extra charge absolutely matters before Godrick kicks your teeth in.
Liurnia Golden Seed Locations
Liurnia is that giant lake north of Stormveil and it's lousy with golden saplings.
Trick here: skip the little tunnels. Stick to the roads and eyeball the waterline. Half the Liurnia seeds hide by small trees along cliffs or next to ruined walls.
Circle the whole main lake. Check every graveyard. Liurnia loves tucking seeds next to graves, for some reason.
Caelid Golden Seed Locations
Caelid's miserable, but the seed route here pays off if you want more heals before midgame.
You do not have to fight every rot creature on the map. Just ride through slow and hit the golden tree landmarks.
A couple of Caelid seeds sit near dragon territories. Do not start a dragon fight unless you've actually come prepared. Snag the seed and bounce.
New player warning: leave the dragons alone. If a seed is parked in dragon land, sneak in, grab it, and ride out. That's not a fight you want yet.
Altus Plateau Golden Seed Locations
By Altus Plateau, most Tarnished already have decent Flask charges. Still, if you want to cap out before the late game, this route hits hard.
Hunt seeds around the Minor Erdtree areas in Altus. Also comb ruins stuffed with tombstones. The seed's glow blends right into the Erdtree leaves, so let Torrent's pickup animation do the spotting for you.
Mountaintops and Snowfield
By the Mountaintops you're probably a few seeds short of maxing the Sacred Flask anyway. The endgame seeds get more spread out.
Doing a real completionist run? Hit the Consecrated Snowfield after the Mountaintops. That region hides saplings in spots that look completely boring. Dead end with a little tree? Go look.
Best Route to Upgrade Your Sacred Flask Early
This step-by-step route works no matter which starting class you picked.
Step 1: Finish the Limgrave/Weeping Peninsula Sweep
Before you set foot in Stormveil Castle, ride all over Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula.
Goal is dead simple: walk away with at least three or four Golden Seeds. That's enough buffer to actually survive Godrick.
Start at the Church of Elleh, push south, sweep the Weeping Peninsula, then loop back north through Mistwood. Don't bang your head on any boss more than two tries. Too strong? Skip it, come back later.
Step 2: Clear the Liurnia Lake Area
Right after Godrick, head north into Liurnia. I like parking at the Lake-Facing Cliffs as my first real checkpoint and fanning out from there.
Ride east toward Raya Lucaria first, then swing west and clean up every church. Liurnia has some of the safest seed pickups in the whole game because most of them aren't boss-guarded at all.
Step 3: Do Caelid Before Altus Plateau
Personal taste. I run Caelid after Liurnia because the extra Flask charges make that whole rotten place way less miserable.
You don't have to clear every dungeon. Just hit the golden tree locations.
Step 4: Hit Altus Plateau + Mt. Gelmir
Altus is where your Flask should be creeping toward max. The route's short because the map is vertical. Pop your map, look for Minor Erdtree symbols, and ride straight to them.
Sometimes an Erdtree Avatar guards the seed. Beat it, get the seed. Not in the mood? Half the time you can just sprint in, grab it, and bolt before it catches up.
Step 5: Finish with the Endgame Regions
The Mountaintops and Consecrated Snowfield hold the last Golden Seed locations in a normal run. After that you're done unless you just want the satisfaction of a fully upgraded Flask.
Sacred Tear Sites: Don't Confuse Them with Golden Seeds
This is where a lot of new Tarnished lose the plot.
Golden Seeds give you more sips.
Sacred Tears make each sip heal more.
Totally different.
Sacred Tears sit in churches scattered across the Lands Between, usually on an altar inside a church or chapel. They matter just as much as Golden Seed locations because they directly change how much HP you get back per drink.
Every time you hit a new zone, check every church. You'll feel that instant spike when your Flask suddenly heals for a way bigger chunk.
My strongest advice:
- Use Golden Seeds at Sites of Grace.
- Offer Sacred Tears at Sites of Grace.
- Always confirm your charges actually went to the Flask you wanted.
Pure melee? Dump most charges into Crimson. Sorcery or incantations? Keep a couple of Cerulean charges held back.
Common Mistakes When Collecting Golden Seeds
I've done all of these. You don't have to.
1. Trying to "use" Golden Seeds from the inventory menu
That's not how they work. You can't pop one from your bag like a Rune Arc.
Rest at a Site of Grace first, then use the menu to bump your charges. Hit "use" in your inventory and get nothing? Working as intended.
2. Confusing Golden Seeds with Sacred Tears
Lots of players grab a Sacred Tear and think, "cool, more flasks." Nope.
Sacred Tears boost healing amount. Golden Seeds boost total charges. You need both.
3. Skipping early seeds because you're "saving" them
Stop saving Golden Seeds. Use them right away.
There is zero upside to waiting. An extra charge early is worth way more than the same charge late, because that's when most people rage-quit—running dry mid-boss at the worst possible moment.
4. Farming enemies for Golden Seeds
Biggest time sink in the game, hands down. Enemies don't drop Golden Seeds.
Some mobs drop random junk, sure. Golden Seeds are one-time world pickups. Spend two hours carving through soldiers waiting for a seed? You'll get nothing.
New player warning: catch yourself farming regular enemies for one? Stop. It isn't happening.
5. Not adjusting Flask charges after leveling up
Use a Golden Seed and the new charge doesn't automatically become Crimson or Cerulean. You have to open the Flask allocation menu and pick where it goes.
I check that screen every single time after using a seed. Skip it and you'll swear the upgrade didn't take.
FAQ
Can I max out my Sacred Flask in one playthrough?
Yes. There are enough Golden Seed locations in Elden Ring to cap your Flask charges in a single run. No New Game Plus required. You just have to actually explore the later regions instead of beelining the final boss.
Do Golden Seeds respawn?
No. One-time pickups. Snag one from a golden tree and that exact seed is gone for the rest of that playthrough.
Roll New Game Plus and the world resets, so you can collect them all again.
What should I upgrade first: Crimson or Cerulean?
Depends entirely on your build.
Melee? Stack Crimson. You'll live longer.
Magic user? Keep at least two or three Cerulean charges parked. You can always re-split at a Site of Grace, so don't sweat it.
Are any Golden Seed locations impossible to get later?
Most seeds stay reachable after the major boss fights. That said, if you're a completionist, grab them before the final "burn the Erdtree" moment. A few late-game landscape shifts make certain routes a pain to come back to.
Final Thoughts
Golden Seed locations aren't half as elusive as people make them sound. Learn the pattern—small golden trees, Minor Erdtrees, sweep by region—and you'll have more than enough charges to get through.
My first run I rolled into Liurnia with a sad handful of upgrades and kept dying empty. On the second run I stopped at every golden tree in Limgrave before Margit. One extra charge? It completely flipped that fight.
Follow the route. Use seeds at the Grace. Keep your Flask balanced.
And don't sit there grinding mobs for a seed that will never drop. The upgrade you want is already waiting under those tiny golden trees.
