Our guide pinpoints the exact Elden Ring Comet Azur location, so you can grab this legendary sorcery safely and early.
Looking for the exact Comet Azur location in Elden Ring? Good, because this is the one spell every mage build ends up obsessing over. Comet Azur is one of the most ridiculous legendary sorceries in the game, and its hiding spot is weirdly easy to reach once you know the route. I'll walk you through exactly where it sits, how to sprint there without getting flattened, and how to actually use it when you've got the stats.
Comet Azur isn't just any spell. It's a legendary sorcery that fires a giant laser beam straight through bosses. If you've ever watched a clip of someone melting a boss in three seconds flat, ninety percent of the time it's this spell doing the dirty work.
The basics:
If you're running a mage build, you basically need this. Even if you're not a mage yet, the Comet Azur location is still worth the trip. Grab it early and let it sit in your inventory until you respec or level enough. I did exactly that on my first mage run, and it saved me a second trip later.
The Comet Azur location is in the Hermit Village on Mount Gelmir. The full route takes maybe five minutes once you stop getting lost.
Mount Gelmir is out west, past Altus Plateau. If Altus Plateau is already unlocked, you're most of the way there.
From Altus Plateau, head west toward Volcano Manor. You'll eventually hit a site of grace called Road of Iniquity. Haven't found it yet? Just follow the main road west through Altus and keep going until the ground turns rocky and starts climbing. That climb is Mount Gelmir.
Touch the Road of Iniquity site of grace and you're in the right neighborhood.
From Road of Iniquity, keep moving deeper into Mount Gelmir toward the clifftops. Don't stop for the fire monks. Don't stop for the poison swamps. Just keep running.
Eventually you'll come across a village built into the cliff. That's Hermit Village. There's a site of grace right there, also called Hermit Village. Touch it. Use it as your safe spawn point so when you inevitably mess up, you respawn ten feet away instead of ten minutes away.
This is the part everyone screws up. Do not run into the center of the village. That's where all the demi-humans are, and they will swarm you so fast you'll wonder how you got surrounded.
Instead, stand at the Hermit Village site of grace and poke around the edges of the ruined buildings. You're looking for a wooden ladder on the side of a house. The village is tiny, so it doesn't take long to spot, but it blends into the rubble like you wouldn't believe. That ladder leads up to a rooftop platform.
Climb it. Follow the wooden scaffolding across the rooftops. You'll see a dead body sitting on a ledge with a glowing item. That item is Comet Azur.
Run up and grab it. That's the whole run. No boss. No Demi-Human Queen. Just sprint to the ladder, climb, grab the spell, fast travel out.
I still remember doing this at level 35 on my first mage build, heart pounding, sprinting through the village like I was late for a bus, because I knew I didn't have the Intelligence to cast it yet and just wanted it in my inventory. Worth every panicked second.
New player warning: Don't stop to explore Hermit Village before grabbing the spell. The demi-humans will mob you, and the ladder is close to the site of grace. Grab the shiny thing first, then goof around if you really want to.
I've watched a lot of players fumble this run. Here's what tends to go wrong.
There's a place in Liurnia called Hermit's Shack, and that is not where the spell is. The Comet Azur location is in Hermit Village on Mount Gelmir, not the shack near the Four Belfries. I made this mistake myself on my first playthrough. Double-check your map before you waste a trip.
The route is short, but the village is packed with demi-humans. Stop to fight and you'll get swarmed. They're slow, and the ladder is out of reach of most of their attacks anyway. Just sprint. Let them yell at you as you leave.
The ladder is easy to miss because it blends in with the ruined buildings. Do not try to climb through the center of the village — that's mostly a dead end with extra enemies. Look for the ladder on the side of a house near the edge of the cliff. If you're standing in the middle of a big pack of enemies, you're in the wrong spot.
You can pick up Comet Azur, but you can't cast it unless you have 60 Intelligence. If you're a low-level character, that's a long way off, and that's completely fine. The spell stays in your inventory. You can cast it after you level up or respec. Don't stare at the screen convinced you wasted your afternoon.
The path to Hermit Village passes by some poison swamps. Get poisoned and you'll be coughing your way through the village, which is not how you want to arrive. Bring a few Detoxifying Boluses, or just stay on the rocks and skirt the swamp as much as you can. Either works, but not being poisoned makes the whole run a lot calmer.
New player warning: This isn't a boss fight, so don't treat it like one. You can sprint past almost everything in Hermit Village. Stop to pick a fight and you'll probably end up back at the site of grace with zero runes and a sore ego.
You've got the spell. Now what? A few things that make it hit harder than just casting it naked.
Use the Cerulean Hidden Tear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick. This tear gives you infinite FP for a few seconds. Put that in your Physick, drink it right before a boss fight, then let the laser fly. You'll burn through nearly any boss in the game. I once deleted a late-game boss in one beam and sat there for a minute going "wait, that's it?"
Pair it with Terra Magica. Terra Magica boosts your magic damage by 35% while you stand in the blue circle. Drop that first, then walk into the circle and cast Comet Azur. Bosses don't stand a chance.
Position matters. Comet Azur fires in a straight line. You need to line up your shot before you cast. In a confined boss arena, that's easy. Out in the open world, you'll have to practice your aim, and it feels terrible when you burn 40 FP and the beam goes six feet wide.
Manage your FP carefully. Comet Azur costs 40 FP per cast. Even on a high Intelligence build, you can't spam it forever. Carry enough Cerulean Flasks, or lean on the Cerulean Hidden Tear for the big fights.
The moment you actually cast it on a boss and watch the health bar evaporate, you'll get why the Comet Azur location is so sought after. It's a boss deletion tool dressed up as a sorcery.
New player warning: Don't panic if you can't use it right away. You'll need 60 Intelligence, and that can take a while. The spell isn't going anywhere — it'll wait for you in your inventory until your build is ready.
The exact Comet Azur location is on a corpse in Hermit Village on Mount Gelmir. From the Hermit Village site of grace, climb a wooden ladder on a ruined building and follow the rooftop platform to find the item.
You can grab Comet Azur as soon as you can reach Mount Gelmir, and you don't need to defeat any bosses to get it. The only catch is that you need 60 Intelligence to cast it, so it's more of a "grab it now, use it later" situation.
Check your Intelligence. Comet Azur requires 60 Intelligence. If you don't have that, the spell won't show up in your skill menu — also, make sure you have a staff equipped and that you've assigned the spell at a site of grace.
Yes. Comet Azur is one of the five legendary sorceries in Elden Ring, and collecting it is required for the Legendary Sorceries trophy/achievement. So grabbing this spell isn't just about power — it's also one more step toward 100% completion.
