Discover the best Elden Ring early game rune farm spots and level up fast before taking on Limgrave's toughest bosses.
Every Tarnished hits the same wall in Elden Ring. You want to poke around Limgrave, maybe dip into the Weeping Peninsula, but Margit and his stupid flail keep flattening you. That's why you need an early game rune farm that doesn't require beating a field boss or relying on some patch-ruined glitch.
In Chinese, the game is called《艾尔登法环》—a name that mashes "Elden" together with "法环," literally "law ring." Kind of fitting, right? When you're farming runes early, you're basically scooping up fragments of the world order and turning them into leveling material. I'll walk you through the safest spot in Limgrave, the dependable run in the Weeping Peninsula, and that secret teleporter route that dumps you in a way richer area before you're even properly geared.
Still under level 15 and fumbling with the combat timing? Gatefront Ruins is your classroom. It's a stone's throw from the start of Limgrave, and the Site of Grace basically sits on top of a camp full of Godrick soldiers. They don't pay out huge runes, sure, but they die fast and they respawn faster. A perfect "no panic" loop for stacking your first real levels and learning how backstabs actually work.
One loop won't make you rich. Still, this is one of the safest early game rune farms in the game. For me personally, this is where I stopped panic-rolling through every engagement and actually started thinking about pulls. It also banks you a steady drip of runes to pour into Vigor before you go anywhere scarier than the east side of Limgrave.
Once you're a bit more comfortable in your own skin, head south out of Limgrave across the Bridge of Sacrifice and into the Weeping Peninsula. It's a massive early-game zone, and Castle Morne sits right in the middle of it. You don't need to clear the castle. Skip it. Set up shop at the Morne Rampart Site of Grace instead.
The Misbegotten hanging around outside this grace respawn, hit harder than the Gatefront soldiers, and drop a noticeably bigger rune stack. No fancy tricks here. Just regular Elden Ring combat, done over and over.
A nice middle step if you want a genuine sword-and-shield run without cheesing spawns. You also get easy access to upgrade materials and weapon gear in the peninsula, so the trip is never a total waste.
Alright, here's the leveling shortcut everyone whispers about. There's an early waygate in Limgrave that zaps you straight to Dragonbarrow. It's dangerous — those enemies are a real step up from Limgrave mobs. They also pay out like you wouldn't believe.
If you've got backstabs down and know how to pull patiently, this is the most efficient early game rune farm you can touch in your first hour.
The Vulgar Militia around the Bestial Sanctum pay out an absurd amount of runes for how early you can get here. They're quick, but their poise is garbage — a charged heavy or a clean backstab staggers them every time. This route took me from a level 10 wet noodle to an actual character before Margit. No exaggeration. If you want fast results and don't mind a little stealth, it's the best early game rune farm going.
Even a great farm turns into a misery factory if you keep stepping on the same rake. The mistakes I see over and over:
Yep. In Elden Ring, most normal field enemies come back when you rest at a Site of Grace or fast travel. That's literally what turns these routes into repeatable farms. Rest after every loop and the same guys are waiting for you.
Before, obviously, if you're underleveled. You can reach all three of these spots without touching Margit. Stuck on Limgrave's bigger bosses? Carve out 20 minutes at the Bestial Sanctum route, shove Vigor up to around 20, and Margit suddenly stops feeling like a wall.
Mostly Vigor. Weapon upgrades matter, don't get me wrong, but you need the HP to survive messing up. Early on, Vigor is the stat that keeps you farming and keeps you learning. Once your health stops feeling like a wet tissue, start feeding points into your main damage stat or Endurance.
Sure. The Bestial Sanctum farm still pays out fine whether you're level 15, 25, or 35. The Vulgar Militia rune reward scales with the area, not with you. As soon as you unlock that waygate, the farm is yours.
Pick one route, stop panicking, spend your runes, and Limgrave's nastiest bosses stop looking so impossible.
