Discover the Stardew Valley best crops for each season to maximize profit, energy, and gifts throughout the year.
Hunting for the best Stardew Valley crops every season? You’re in the right place.
Each season only lasts 28 days, so one bad seed purchase can cost you a whole month of profit. Here’s the quick breakdown for money, energy, and gifts — without the spreadsheet headache.
| Season | Best Overall | Runner-Ups | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | Strawberry | Potato, Cauliflower | Strawberries keep producing after they mature |
| Summer | Blueberry | Starfruit, Melon | Blueberries give 3 berries per harvest, all season |
| Fall | Cranberry | Pumpkin, Sweet Gem Berry | Cranberries regrow fast and sell for solid profit |
| Winter | Winter Seeds | Greenhouse Crops | No regular outdoor crops grow in winter |
Spring is the season that teaches you how to farm. You start with almost no gold and only 270 energy, so every seed choice matters.
The first time I played, I bought a ton of parsnips and spent all morning watering them. That works in week one, but there are way better options.
Potatoes are the safest money crop in early Spring. Plant them on Spring 1 and they’re ready by Spring 7.
Replant right away and you’ll get another harvest before the Egg Festival on Spring 13.
Strawberry Seeds are only sold at the Egg Festival on Spring 13. You can’t buy them from Pierre’s shop, so save your gold before the festival.
Strawberries don’t just die after one fruit. They keep producing for the rest of Spring.
Plant them right after the Egg Festival and you’ll get at least two harvests. With Speed-Gro, you can push for a third.
Cauliflower doesn’t regrow, but it pays well. It also has a chance to turn into a giant cauliflower, which gives extra drops when broken.
Plant them in a 3x3 grid to give yourself a shot at a giant crop.
Also, save one for Maru. She loves cauliflower as a gift.
Summer is Stardew’s way of paying you back. You should have sprinklers by now, or at least a bigger energy bar.
Blueberries are the best Summer crop for new and mid-game players. Plant them on Summer 1 and your first harvest lands around Summer 14.
After that, you’ll harvest again around Summer 18, 22, and 26. One plant can bring in about 600g of berries per season.
They’re easy, cheap, and don’t require replanting. Definitely a no-brainer.
Starfruit is the highest-value outdoor crop in Summer, but you need to unlock the Desert first. Sandy’s Oasis shop sells Starfruit Seeds.
Got the gold and the bus route? Plant Starfruit on Summer 1. Harvest around Summer 14, then replant right away for a second harvest before the season ends.
Also, Starfruit makes amazing wine. If you have a Keg, save some fruit for it.
Melons are solid if you can’t get Starfruit Seeds yet. They can also grow into giant melons.
And if you need food for the mines, eating a melon is way better than eating a parsnip.
Fall is money season. If you planned your farm right, Fall should make you more gold than Spring and Summer combined.
Cranberries are the best Fall crop for steady money. Each plant gives about 150g per harvest, and since they regrow every 5 days, they keep earning until Fall 28.
They’re the low-maintenance income option. Plant them and let the harvests roll in.
Pumpkins are the classic Fall cash crop. Plant them early, and you can get two pumpkin harvests before Winter.
Pumpkins can also grow into giant pumpkins, so leave some open space in your field.
Want to befriend Abigail? Save one pumpkin. She loves them.
Sweet Gem Berries come from Rare Seeds, which show up at the Traveling Cart on Fridays and Sundays. They take nearly the whole season to grow, but the payout is massive.
If you get a Rare Seed, plant it on Fall 1.
Here’s a big tip: don’t sell every Sweet Gem Berry. There’s a secret statue in the Secret Woods that wants one, and it rewards you with a Stardrop.
Winter is the season when outdoor farming stops. You can’t plant normal crops outside between Winter 1 and Winter 28.
Winter Seeds are different. You craft them using winter forage items like Winter Root, Crystal Fruit, Snow Yam, and Crocus.
Once planted outside, they grow into random winter forage plants. Winter Seeds won’t make you rich, but they’re great for:
If you’ve unlocked the Greenhouse, Winter is the perfect time to grow high-value crops that normally die in the cold.
Your best Greenhouse picks are:
The Greenhouse is the real endgame farm. Once Ancient Fruit is growing there, Winter stops being a dead season.
Follow these steps before you buy any seeds.
This is the most common mistake in Stardew Valley. If you plant a 13-day crop on Fall 16, it won’t be ready until Fall 29 — and the season ends on Fall 28.
Fix: Count how many days you have left before buying seeds.
I’ve been there. Buy too many seeds, water them all, and you’ll pass out before noon.
Fix: Start small and expand when you get sprinklers.
Fertilizer makes a huge difference. Quality Fertilizer boosts your chance of gold-star crops, and Speed-Gro helps crops grow faster in those tight 28-day seasons.
Fix: Add fertilizer right after hoeing the soil, before planting seeds.
Some crops are better as gifts than gold. Pumpkins are great for Abigail, and cauliflower is a loved gift for Maru.
Fix: Tuck a couple of gift crops into a chest before selling the rest.
Winter feels empty, but it doesn’t have to be. Winter Seeds let you farm outdoors, and the Greenhouse lets you farm year-round.
Fix: Keep farming through Winter instead of just sleeping through it.
For a single season, Sweet Gem Berry and Starfruit are the big winners. But for long-term profit, Ancient Fruit is the best crop in the game, especially in the Greenhouse when turned into wine.
No. Most crops won’t grow outside in Winter. You can grow Winter Seeds, use your Greenhouse, or farm on Ginger Island if you’ve unlocked it.
Yes, most crops die when their season ends. For example, Spring crops die on Summer 1. Multi-season crops like corn and wheat survive if they also grow in the next season.
Yes. Strawberries are one of the best Spring crops you can buy, but they only appear at the Egg Festival. Save up at least a few hundred gold before Spring 13 so you can grab Strawberry Seeds.
