Overview

The Slime Charmer Ring is one of the most useful rings in Stardew Valley, especially if you spend a lot of time in The Mines, Skull Cavern, or the Volcano Dungeon. Its effect is simple but powerful: it prevents all damage from slimes. That includes green slimes, blue slimes, red slimes, purple slimes, Big Slimes, Prismatic Slimes, and Tiger Slimes. With the ring equipped, you can walk straight through a slime without taking damage or getting the Slimed debuff, which makes it much easier to explore dangerous floors and farm slime drops.

The main way to get the Slime Charmer Ring is by completing the Slime Monster Eradication Goal. You need to kill 1,000 slimes, then claim your reward from Gil inside the Adventurer’s Guild. The Adventurer’s Guild is located in the Mountain area, east of the Mines entrance. It is open from 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Marlon runs the shop counter, but Gil is the one who gives you monster eradication rewards. There is also a rare alternative: the Slime Charmer Ring can be found in Fishing Treasure Chests after you reach Fishing level 2. That method is pure luck, so most players should focus on the 1,000-slime goal.

This guide covers exactly where to go, who to talk to, how to farm slimes efficiently, and the mistakes that can slow you down.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

  1. Locate the Adventurer’s Guild. From Pelican Town, head north into the Mountain area. Walk past the Mines entrance and continue east around the lake. The Adventurer’s Guild is the building with the sign near the bridge. Enter it between 2:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Inside, you will see Marlon at the counter and Gil sitting in a rocking chair by the fireplace.

  2. Check the Monster Eradication Goals poster. Inside the Adventurer’s Guild, walk up to the poster on the wall and interact with it. This board tracks your kill counts for several monster types. Find the entry for “Slimes.” It will show something like “Slimes: 0/1000” when you first start. This is the goal you need to complete.

  3. Farm slimes in the best locations. The Mines are the most reliable place to rack up slime kills. Green Slimes appear on floors 1–39, Blue Slimes on floors 40–79, and Red Slimes on floors 80–119. Purple Slimes are common in Skull Cavern and can also show up in the deeper Mines. If you have access to Ginger Island, Tiger Slimes in the Volcano Dungeon also count toward the slime goal.

  4. Prioritize Slime-infested floors. In The Mines, you will sometimes find a floor that is completely infested with slimes. These floors are gold mines for this goal because they spawn many slimes at once, often including Big Slimes. Clear the floor, leave, and re-enter to reset the spawns if possible. Using the elevator to hop between floors is a fast way to find more slimes.

  5. Kill Big Slimes and let them split. Big Slimes are excellent for this goal. When you defeat one, it splits into several smaller slimes. Each of those smaller slimes counts toward your total. If you kill the Big Slime and then finish off the little ones, one encounter can give you three or four kills instead of one.

  6. Track your progress. Every few runs, return to the Adventurer’s Guild and check the Monster Eradication Goals poster. It updates automatically as you kill slimes. Once the Slimes entry reaches 1,000, the goal is complete.

  7. Claim the ring from Gil. After hitting 1,000 slime kills, talk to Gil. He is the old man in the rocking chair, not Marlon at the counter. Gil will give you the Slime Charmer Ring as your reward. Make sure you have at least one empty inventory slot so the ring can be added to your inventory.

  8. Equip the ring. Open your inventory, select the Slime Charmer Ring, and place it in one of your ring slots. You can now walk through slimes without taking damage. If you want, you can combine it later at the Forge on Ginger Island with another ring, such as the Iridium Band, to save a ring slot.

FAQ

Q: How many slimes do I need to kill for the Slime Charmer Ring? A: You need to kill 1,000 slimes to complete the Slime Monster Eradication Goal. Once that is done, talk to Gil in the Adventurer’s Guild to receive the ring.

Q: Can I get the Slime Charmer Ring without killing 1,000 slimes? A: Yes, but only through luck. The ring can rarely appear in Fishing Treasure Chests after you reach Fishing level 2. The guaranteed method is still completing Gil’s slime eradication goal.

Q: Do Slime Hutch slimes count toward the 1,000 slime goal? A: No. Slimes in the Slime Hutch do not count toward monster eradication goals. Only wild slimes found in The Mines, Skull Cavern, the Volcano Dungeon, and similar areas count.
